Stroke of the Month: One-handed Backhand

In the Video: Natalia Traverso Caruana

(Natalia 1 month later after picking up a racket for the 1st time)

The one-handed backhand is a beautiful stroke if done correctly. Look for these steps in the video below:

  1. 1)Split-step

  2. 2)Turn the shoulders and take the racket back, preparing to draw a sword.

  3. 3)Little approaching steps to line up the shot

  4. 4)Load and transfer the weight from back to front

  5. 5)Draw the sword to contact. Shoulder should rise up to strike the ball. Head stays down.

  6. 6)Finish with the weight balanced. Racket finishes high.

Tennis Tip

Groundstrokes:

Watch the seems of the ball as it comes off your opponent’s racket. Track the ball’s seems all the way to the contact point. Instead of just “watching the ball,” go a step further and you will be amazed at how much more focused you are.
